World Polio Day was established by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis (polio).

In honor of World Polio Day, Rotary Clubs of Plattsburgh hosted two Bike-a-Thons in 2018:

The first event was held at Plattsburgh State College on Parents Weekend, September 22, 2018 in front of the Angell College Center and was conducted by members of the Rotaract Club of Plattsburgh State.

The second event was held at Champlain Centre on October 6, 2019 and was managed by Plattsburgh Noon and Plattsburgh Sunrise Clubs.

Thanks to a matching grant from the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, the Plattsburgh Rotary groups raised $6,642 for The Rotary Foundation Polio Plus Fund.
