Mini Project with Alliance for Positive Health - Opioid Crisis

Diana Aguglia, the Director of the Alliance for Positive Health in Plattsburgh, plays an active role in SPARCC efforts.

APH does needle exchange. They also provide services for prevention and support of people living with HIV/AIDS.

The APH makes kits that they distribute.  Diana will talk about the opioid crisis and then we will use 30 minutes for making kits.  With 25 people making simple kits for 30 m we could put together a lot of them.

From Tom D.:

Diana can speak to the opioid crisis in a meaningful way. She can explain what SPARCC is and all that SPARCC is doing to bring organizations together to combat the opioid crisis in our community as well as educate our community to reduce the stigma of addition. She can also bring a list of ways our club could partner with SPARCC and further their efforts in an incredible way. SPARCC is a coalition of community service groups. With the backing of a motivated volunteer organization, SPARCC could really ascend into the premier regional resource for the opioid crisis

Some of the statistics are staggering. For example, there have been approximately 187 successful overdose reversals using NARCAN kits supplied by Alliance for Positive Health since 2015. That would have been nearly 200 additional deaths associated with heroin in just the past few years!

I also believe that our club would love the opportunity to volunteer and help an organization like the Alliance for Positive Health. By having part of our meeting be a volunteer opportunity (assembling kits) our club could make an immediate impact and not have to find time outside of our morning meeting. We are all busy and have a number of commitments. Bringing the volunteering to our members during a meeting is a great idea!
